Connecting the dots!

It seems that this week's theme for me was "connecting the dots"!

  • First of all, I remembered how Loredana's Le Le became an international AIESEC hit, and the rollcall that started in România is now world-wide.
  • Than I remembered the recruitment, since many members from SSMI asked me about how could they join...
  • Than I remembered Poland... with love... (long story here! }{)
  • Someday, I don't recall well how, but I've found the Polish fall recruitment video.
  • For the Romanian NPS I made no less than 1, 2, 3 of the application movies from LC Iaşi and that every single one of them was a pleasure.
  • At Rock ME I met a Polish girl from LC Gdansk - Milena - to whom I talked about Poland, how is it there for a trainee, how is it compared to România... all because at that time I was in a frenzy about getting an internship Wrocław.

An unordered list? Some unconnected dots? Not really! I wonder who krzychoorumia is! :P

Dor de Bucovina

Now that we have the barter with Dor de Bucovina, it seems that the concept of team building reaches a whole new level in AIESEC Iaşi! Between December 21st and 23rd, both the Strategic and the CR departments headed for the mountains. For most of us it was the first time that we went skiing, but that didn't stop us!

As always, here are the pictures:

STG & CR Team Building

Tomorrow, 06:12 in the morning, both the Strategic and the Corporate Relations will take the train to Cîmpulung Moldovenesc! I can't wait: 3 days of snow in the mountains - now that's a team building! \:D/

Christmas Spirit

All day we (15 AIESEC-ers) were on the road singing Christmas carols to our partners and suporters: Coca-Cola, Edurom, RBN, PRO Tv, Agency One, Airbites etc.

Motivational Weekend for SSMI

Live from near Piatra Neamt:
  • Morning Plenary with Klin
  • Self Discovery and Goal Setting with Ramona
  • Self Discovery and Feedback with Klin
  • Team building and Cooperation with Andi
  • Evening Plenary, yet again with Klin
Right now it's feedback time for todays sessions...
I've finished my Advanced Project Management training for tomorrow and, even though a bit nervous, I'm eager to deliver it...

Many new things learned from Klin, Andi and Ramona on trainings... But that's what makes those experiences really worth it!

Trainer @ SSMIs LMS

This week-end I'll be in Piatra Neamt, at the motivation conference of SSMI. This time I'll be a trainer/facilitator with Andi, Ramona and Klin from the NTT. My training will be on Project Management, yet again... This time the advanced version, but it looks like I'll start gaining some expertise on this training. :P

Official @ volunteer

Starting yesterday I'm officially an AIESEC volunteer. Well, I've been a volunteer in AIESEC for a year even without an official contract, but now, thanks to Livia for solving the status problem, we are OK. :)

The way I salute the LTT from Cluj

Constantly read your aiesec.net mail account!

This is a thought I keep forgetting lately... and that's too bad, because I tend to miss out some things. I told myself that since the online platform will soon be renewed, people (at least the ones like me) will not use it that much until the new version will be online. But life is full of surprises, so I was really surprised how active the guys from @Cluj are! One thing did catch my eye in a special way:

I am very happy to announce you that a new learning circle is in town.
This learnig circle is organized by LTT and the topic is NLP... what is and what can it do... to you :P

Too bad that it took place on November 22nd and at that time I was nowhere near Cluj... But I will surely not miss this opportunity to salute the LT Team from Cluj! >:D<

Here is something I found thanks to that email and I enjoyed watching:

Microsoft Project Training

Today I remembered I promised AIESEC Iași I would prepare a training on Microsoft Project with Mihai. So, I searched a bit for a more affordable version of MS Project.

On Educational-Software.com I saw that Microsoft Project 2007 Standard Educational is only $69.99. But, as they say,

Commercial Full-Version
- Big $ Discounts
+ Use Restrictions
=
Educational Software*

*All Features and Functionality included in the Commercial Full-Version are included in the Educational Software versions. Educational Software can be used for educational, personal, and school purposes. Educational Software cannot be used for commercial or business purposes.

OK, so if I buy this, we could use it for the training, but not afterwards, in the organization...

Until I will find more details about Microsoft's pricing policy for NGOs, I think I will personally use something else to prepare the training: Portable Microsoft Office Project 2007 Professional.

EE Poster Reloaded

Well, we got some feedback on the other pictures. Today, considering the suggestions and the change of name (the Board of Advisers had some things to say), I took my camera and another "photo session" took place. Here are the photos:

MyAIESEC.net

MyAIESEC.net is the new global online communication platform and collaboration tool prepared by Tata Consultancy Services Limited!

I think that the platform was opened for testing on the 17th of November, since the oldest wiki entry (about the AIESEC Way) is from back then. For the final version, that is going to be released on the 10th of December, we will have to take the tests again and make new accounts. Until than, you can still use your old AIESEC.net account in order to give it a test, but here is a sneak preview on the new design:

compared to the old AIESEC.net design:

This time it is a user centric system, built around our needs and our requirements in order to enrich our AIESEC Experience. Well, they say that life is what you make of it, but we can say the same about this platform: it is what you make of it - it's your playground. Here we can connect with our AIESEC peers from around the world, share documents and files and capitalize on our experience in AIESEC.

Teamwork Training

We now have the new members and it's yet again Induction time! This time, as a LTT member I also had a training: teamwork.

This training was a first from several perspectives:

  • 1st training with a co-trainer - Sandra (Thank you, you were great today and I am very happy that I've chosen you as my co-trainer!)
  • 1st training without my usual Microsoft PowerPoint presentations
  • 1st training with the good old flip charts... Thanks to Sandra's writing, they were really good :D
Sandra and I talked mostly about:

Also worth mentioning was the Labyrinth game, that allowed the teams to coagulate and enrich communication and teamwork.

Here is a small sample from those beautiful two hours:

B606 take off!

Last night, the B606 magazine was officially launched!

We had quite a nice party in Qvinta and I even got the chance to find one of the winning magazines! Yey! One extra beer for me!
To be honest, when I left home for the party, I did take my camera, but I've forgotten that my batteries were already depleted.

Still, Andi took some photos and he was so kind to share them that I couldn't help it to share them along. So get ready, here they are:

Rock ME 2007

With the TTDP almost over, I'm packing and looking forward to going to Semenic in order to participate to Rock ME (aka AutCO or Spy Me). This year's autumn functional conference is organized by AIESEC Timisoara between the 19th and the 23rd of September at no less than 1400m altitude.

Even if wikipedia knows so little about these mountains, there is something that caught my attention:

"It is a fact that on Mount Semenic, in comparison with the other ski resorts of Romania, the snow gets the thickest throughout the year, frequently reaching a layer thickness above 2 m, that stretches the ski season up to the end of April, and sometimes even May."

I will have my camera with me, so I might bring back some fresh snow from there! ;o)

Entrepreneurship Summer School

Summer moved out, but another stage of even more thrilling AIESEC Learning Experience moved in, so you`d better have your batteries fully recharged by these first days of autumn in order to take up this great chance.

For those of you interested in acquiring a knowledge basis upon entrepreneurship and creating wide prospectives for your future professional activity, we are enthused to invite you to the Entrepreneurship Summer School Iasi 2007, organised by AIESEC Iasi, which will take place between the 5th and the 8th of September (as the positive thinkers that we are, we still prefer to call "summer school" a September Activities Session).

Many company representatives (OTIMMC, Kapital, Artis Design) as well as the AIESEC Alumni Bogdan Chiru will be present to attend the workshops and to share with the participants processes of developing great skills in this domain.

The agenda, as well as more details, are also available!

TTT1 Training

Yesterday I was writing about the Train the Trainers that just took place in AIESEC Iasi. As I was taught, a training consists of two big parts: if yesterday I made the design available, today it is time for the delivery!

Because on YouTube you cannot upload videos with a file size greter than 100MB, and there is also a 10-minute length limit, there are to parts for an 11 minutes and 43 seconds video. But enough with the small talk, here are the videos:

PD Summer School

Do you know what HR means?

Do you want to know more about it?

Have you ever thought about working in this area?

Have you ever wondered if it suits you?

Now it’s the time to answer at least one of these questions!

Take part in an intense 5 days experience, the People Development Summer School!

3 things you will surely learn from us:

  1. HR means more than recruitment and printing paychecks. You will know how to take the AIESEC PD style of motivating and rewarding to the external environment.

  2. How to coach and be coached in AIESEC or in your everyday life.

  3. How to efficiently use interviews and selection.

All this takes place in Iasi, between the 3-7 of September!

Send your motivation letter until the 2nd of September, to the following addresses: daniela.chiriac@aiesec.net and anca.ursu@aiesec.net

Trainer Level 1

Train the Trainers: Level 1

After 2 long days with schedules stretching from 3PM to 9PM, after trainings, preparations and exercises, 12 of us made a new step in their career as a trainer. I can be a bit proud and say that I'm one of them... since it was one of my goals for some time now.

What about the trainings?
They (in order of appearance) were about:

  1. The power of feedback (Did you know there are different types of feedback? Alexandra explained it clearly)
  2. "Arhaic neologic" (Nice exercise there, Cristi! now I know how technological evolution steals different essential skills from us)
  3. Branding and how is it important in a company (Alex made it clear how important is it for a company to have it's own identity)
  4. Attitude towards change (I still miss the rest of Manuela's story, what should I do with my labyrinth?)
  5. Electronic music (Too bad Paul had problems with the logistics, at least I know about Kraftwerk now <<thanks Anca for the correct spelling>>)
  6. Tips & Tricks in blogging (Let's see how Andi uses them)
  7. Inter-cultural communication (Anca: "There is life outside AIESEC!")
  8. How to fit 1000 words into an image?
  9. How many times have you been taken hostage? (Yes, it seems Ionut convinced us that it is part of our daily life)
  10. The basics of photography (Delia, you still have to teach me more about volume, no matter how many artistic photos were in that slideshow)
  11. Contests and competition (Anda seems to have something for everyone)
  12. I'm small, the planet's big! (BMW vs. a double cheeseburger: Anca seems to know which one creates more pollution)

How to fit 1000 words into an image?

  • My idea was to introduce them to same basic basic specifications that make a camera stand out and also the way they affect the photography:
    • Exposure
    • Shutter speed
    • Aperture
  • We also tried a study-case, by comparing two different digital cameras at almost the same price.
  • The last part in my agenda was a practical exercise that underlined the importance of a swivel display on your camera.
  • Since I've finished 60% of my presentation in the first 5'30" and I still had 7' for the rest of it, I still had time to answer questions and finish 30" earlier.

If you enjoyed the story, you might like also the presentation, even though it is written (mainly) in Romanian. There are also the six photos from the practical exercise.

As Adi Rindasu (Edurom) told us: "See you at TTT Level 2!"

From Polanda, with love!

Special days, special moments...

Not so long ago, a special boy has received a special gift! His special girl has sent him a little something on a very special day. The occasion was so special for them, that she sent it in a totally out of the ordinary way.

What did we have in the beginning?

  • one morning...
  • one phone call...
  • one unknown lady at the other end of the line...
  • one circumspect boy...
  • one hectic day filled of tasks to complete...
  • one friend to come along...
  • one destination reached...

What did we get in the end?

Yes, she did make my day!

To Polanda, with love!

@Cluj visits @Iasi

On a Friday - the 24th - noon I got an SMS from Simona, our trainee from Lithuania, asking me about my plans for that evening and if I had some free time to spend with some trainees from AIESEC Cluj.

Even though it was after a party-night, AIESEC Cluj really has a special place in my heart... Maybe just because my heart belongs to a beautiful girl from @CJ, who knows? :P That is why, after catching up on some more sleep we made a visiting program for the trainees. We also had a party at about 22:30, but they arrived past midnight. I was expecting about 5 trainees to come, but then I met Peng (from @China) and Ute (from @Germany) that came with Vlad (from Cluj :P). I must admit that I had a lot of fun with them and I didn't felt sorry for a second that they were only 3.

The next day - the 25th - was reserved for visiting Iasi:
  • Copou Park, with Eminescu's lime-tree;
  • The Botanical Garden, with the greenhouse and the rosarium;
  • The "Alexandru Ioan Cuza" University - even if the AIESEC office was closed, at least they saw the paintings by Sabin Balasa in Sala Pasilor Pierduti;
  • we ate a pizza at Golfo diNapoli;
  • From Piata Unirii we went to Unirea Hotel's 13th floor, at Panoramic Restaurant, for some overview photos of Iasi;
  • We went along the Stefan cel Mare street and visited the Metropolitan Cathedral, The Trei Ierarhi Church until Dosoftei House;
  • We did get to the Palace of Culture, but it was already closed :-(
  • The National Museum was our next stop. On our way back, Peng got some beautiful tram photos on Cuza Voda street!
  • We simply had to stop also in Sage, for a tea/coffee/juice/cocktail... As usually, everyone got a chance to taste everything :D
  • On our way to Gaudeamus dorm, we only had time (and stamina) to see the University, lighted into the night.

After such a "complete" day, no wonder that the next morning 5 alarms and reminders couldn't wake me up at 7:00... I woke up only when Vlad called me at 8:40 :-"...

One car, 6 people: Vlad, Ute, Peng, Simona, Irina and I went to visit the Moldova Region. We had the monasteries in our mind, but as you know, it never happens exactly as planned.

So, Sunday - the 26th - on a mainly rainy weather, we got the chance to visit:
  • The Humor Monastery;
  • The Voronet Monastery and
  • The Suceava Stronghold
Long after dusk, we met Maurizio (former @IS trainee, from @Italy) in Targu Neamt and we returned to Iasi by car, with his girlfriend, while he went on with Vlad and the trainees.

Long story, right? :D Well, if you got so far, here are the pictures, from these days:

Erasmus time

During the Iashington 2007 project, we (the OC) got the chance to get to know some Erasmus students. Even though I didn't got the chance to take part in quite many events just before the Global Village because I had to finish my portfolio, I did get the chance to talk to some of them. Besides the trainees that we have in our LC, getting to know the Erasmus students is for me, by far, the best multicultural experience so far.

So that is how I got to know people from Italy, Spain, Germany and France... But I have a feeling that this is only the top of the iceberg...

BTW, today @ 7:30PM, SANGRIA evening/night! >:)

New blog header: ver. 0.1

It all started in a funny moment with a picture taken by Ana in the Trotuş salt mine, in our vacation to Slănic Moldova and a bit of experimenting with fd's Flickr Toys...

Relax :: Blog Header

Since Wordpress and Blogger use different default sizes for headers, a bit of cropping was necessary. The "final" version looks like this:

I have uploaded the original photo on flickr:

I have a few alternatives in my mind, but until than, this one is here to stay...

Vacation!

Well, I had my time!

From the 9th until the 18th of July I had the chance to see (more of) Fagaraş, Sibiu, Braşov, Slănic Moldova and a bit more, on the way. To be honest, this was my first time in Braşov, but the city is great!

Among the beautiful souvenirs I brought home, there are also a bit more than 1.000 photos. From them, I've chosen some to share. You can find them in a separate set on flickr.

Sunday, July 8, 2007

From the 9th of July I'm taking a small well deserved vacation, so for at least a week, there will be (almost) no activity around here.

I am planning to go with Ana-Maria to visit Fagaraş and Slănic Moldova at least. Not everything is planned ahead, so I think I will have more details on the time-frame and the places I've visited only when I get back. Until than, enjoy the sun!

P.S.: Graphic from iStockphoto.com used in a very-non-commercial way. :o)

STG & ICX TB

After a full night with the teambuilding on Iashington 2007, we thought we could do even nore!

The next day, the Ciric Lake was planned as the teambuilding location not for only one, but for two departments in AIESEC Iasi. So both STG and ICX members gathered at Ciric for one great TB!

We had lots of fun, and even a few goats running around, just to make it special! :)) You can see most of it in the photos uploaded in the album below:

Leadership Gala

Leadership Gala: the place where the leaders from Iasi get together!

Friday, June 22nd, 19:00, at Moldova Hotel from Iasi, the Leadership Gala took place. The purpose of this event was to gather together AIESEC Iasi Alumni, Returnees and representatives of the corporate environment, in order to change ideas and experiences and identify common needs, on which they can capitalize upon. Also the local companies had the chance to find out more information about AIESEC as a leadership organization.

In the second part of the evening, the teams involved in Entrepreneurship Excellence Project were rewarded for their work, and for the business plans that they conceived during the preparation program that took place in the January-June period.

After that, we had a party in Blackout. You can find most of the pictures I've made in the album below. Just click and enjoy! ;)

From Trainee to Trainer

I have to admit that ever since I've joined AIESEC, even from the Induction period, a warm thought has invaded my mind:
"Hey, I'd really love to be a trainer, someday..."
Since then I was waiting for the day when I'll receive a mail saying:
Hey shinny happy @ people!
I know you were waiting for a long time... and now, you finally have the chance... to become TRAINERS!
...And on Monday, the 11th of June, Pitu did send us that lovely announcement! \:D/

Because every journey starts with a first step, as a LEVEL 0 TRAINER, my responsibilities would have been:

  • Participate in the "Training Design" preparation program organized by the PD dept;
  • Take part into trainings as a co-trainer;
  • Make researches on given topics for the trainings library;
  • Facilitate groups during a training;
  • Fill training impact evaluation forms.

Next steps:
  • Sending my motivation letter till Friday, the 15th of June;
  • Saturday, the 16th of June, interview time!

Everything went as planned, the interview was nice and friendly, Ana and Pitu got a chance to enjoy the air conditioning on that torrid day and we got a chance not only to answer questions, but to have a nice dialog; at least I know I did! Because there were no less than 32 motivation letters some people got interviewed only today, but... thanks to the effectiveness shown by the girls, we also got the results today: we have 24 level 0 trainers!

During selection, the following competencies and abilities were considered:
  • Adaptability
  • Empathy
  • Communication
  • Self-awareness
  • Respect
  • Accountability
  • Motivation
  • Level of engagement (past & future)
  • Role awareness

After all this being said, as announced by our LTTC, Pitu, the new level 0 trainers are:
  • Silvia Calenic
  • Paula Tuduri
  • Alexandra Macarie
  • Anca Ursu
  • Alex Focea
  • Cristi Ambrozie
  • Ioana Petrica
  • Iuliana Simciuc
  • Marius Butuc
  • Anda Niculescu
  • Delia Sopca
  • Catalina Cojocaru
  • Manuela Birsan
  • Alexandra Schiopu
  • Adina Ianau
  • Andrei Piftor
  • Alina Cozma
  • Anca Vizitiu
  • Simona Berbec

Iashington 2007 Site - v0.9

It is almost done, just waiting for approval from the Image Dept.

Ready to be tested and I really hope some flaws / mistakes will be found (to prove the tester's quality :-P) so we can make it at least "almost-perfect"!

Here is how it looks:

If you want find more details about the project, or just want to give it a try, it is now available online... Enjoy!

Iashington 2007 New Identity

You might have read around here about one of the greatest (pretty fresh) projects of AIESEC Iaşi: Iashington 2007!

Besides the "proud to be part of the team" feeling, I have some piece of news for you! We finally have a new cool identity, thanks to Iulian, and his smart identity lab! The team and I are very grateful for his big help!

Iashington 2007

A bit behind deadline, we are now working on the Web site. Hope to joyfully announce it's "opening" soon! ;-)

To be continued...

Privacy Policy :P

Starting today, most of my photo-albums on PicasaWeb will not be that public anymore, since I have decided to "share" that 1Gb of space. That is why some albums are now unlisted, and you will only be able to access them from here.
Hope this will not bother anyone, and that I will eliminate all dead links asap. ;)

Iashington 2007

Iashington 2007 - Another great project from AIESEC Iaşi

This is a great opportunity for AIESEC-ers from all over the world not only to both visit Iaşi/Romania for about a week and get to know a bit more about @IS, but also to live Romania. Yes, you read well: you will get the chance not only to see, but also to experience what makes Romania so different, especially Moldova County.

This one of the greatest chances you'll ever have to visit Romania and to make your summer vacation really special!

As OCVP Promo I will have to make sure that any AIESEC-er that might be interested about this project will hear about it. And since this project is so big, I can't do it without my "beautiful assistant" - Irina.
Soon, we will complete our Promo team with one of the newly recruited members... I just wonder who will be the lucky one... :-?

But until further news, here are some photos from our first real meeting, from Sunday, March 25th in Clubul Presei.

LTS2 team building

I'm starting to love team buildings! :D
Here are a few photos from the LTS2 team building, the night between the 24th and the 25th of March. Some of them are taken in Alpin Weiss, while watching the football game between Romania and the Netherlands.

EE Trainings - Day 1

Today was the first day of trainings from the "Entrepreneurship Excellence" project and we have learned about Vision and Strategy in a company. This is an AIESEC IAŞI project which appeals to all @-ers, interested in the Entrepreneurship issue, no matter on which department they activate.

The project is divided in several steps:
  1. December 2006 - registration, selection of the candidates, division into teams & enable a Strategic Coach for each team. For the project can apply any member of AIESEC Iasi interested in this issue with an application form. The selected members will be divided into teams, and each team will have a Strategic Coach that will offer them all the necessary instruments and indications in order to realize a coherent assessment.
  2. January-February 2007 - assessment in the local environment. Members identify the needs of the local economic market. The wanted result of this stage is to find a business plan that can be used to help creating a future company.
  3. March-April 2007 - almost 2 months of trainings concerning the structure of a Business Plan for the business idea that was identified in the previous stage. Each team has the support of a Coach from the external environment (persons from companies, teachers etc.)
  4. May 2007 - Entrepreneurship Gala: teams will present their own businesses in front of a jury formed by people from companies and the most interesting ideas will receive prizes.
Well, there are some new pictures also:

Strategic TeamBuilding

Last night (22-23.03.2007) I took part in my first Team Building, made for the Strategic department. We were quite a bunch in that room, but it was fun & games all night long so the time flew pretty fast.

One of the games I've enjoyed most was Johari window. The feed-back I got thanks to this game can be seen in this post's picture. Since I was the "picture-taking responsible", I also made the rest of the photographs available. You just need a Google account in order to leave comments.

Strategic TeamBuilding

We also got a chance to discuss about the T-shirts we will have on this department and I'm quite glad that my idea with the beer-mug was that catchy! ;))
Now, I just can't wait to see the final version of the T-shirts.
